I finally tried brussel sprouts - saw them at the supermarket yesterday, bought it and had some boiled during dinner. after reading about them, I was worried about overcooking them as it will result in an unpleasant smell. anyway, I timed my cooking time to prevent this and after 7mins, I have some nice boiled brussel sprouts!
oh, I had a irrational fear of them having worms inside though, so I made it a point to halve before eating, haha.
why do so many dislike this vegetable??
minimal preparation is good for me, just slice a bit of the stem off and pluck the loosened leaves. wash and soak awhile in water!
the mooncakes fair at takashimaya square is on!
I went there today and one of my findings is that the famed Heng Heung wife biscuits from Hong Kong has a stall there! I'm not a big fan but my mum simply loves it! XD initially, there were lots of boxes of them biscuits but I went to purchase after dinner and there were just about 7 boxes left. Looks like they sell really well!
Hmm, have to say that the biscuits are not in tip-top state and some were a bit squashed but still passable. I guess the shipping was the cause and if you've bought them before, you'd know that they are simply placed loosely in the box so they're rather vulnerable.
I'm not interested in the lotus paste type of mooncakes but I did buy 3 pieces of the snow skin black sesame ones from The Regent Singapore. very nice!!! the guy was quite puzzled on why I bought 3 odd pieces instead of just 2...well I didn't want to buy 1 box of 8 coz' usually I'm the only one who eats snow skin mooncakes at home and that seems a lot (?). 2 seems not enough and settled for 3 which still costs < $20 (so expensive at $5.50 per piece!). anyway, I realised that I can get 20% off using citibank credit card if I buy 1 box at Change Alley. maybe if I can't get enough of them, I will go buy it..kekeke. ;P
oh, I read about InterContinental Singapore and realised they have snow skin black sesame too, shall go try that and compare! Somewhat tempted by Hilton's cheese varieties too!
last night dinner was at sushi tei! I like their salmon belly soup! and, of course we had to have dessert, right?! we went to Canelé for some cakes - their walnut cheese and blackforest are good! we also tried a chocolatey slice but it was too chocolatey for my liking (and I feel a cough coming on so didn't partake much of that). pricey cakes at $6+ per (small) slice.
going to make use of a voucher for high tea at fullerton hotel on this sunday. hope it's good!
so I'd better work harder at the gym tonight!
I finally satisfied my wanting of some donuts from donut factory on National Day. the express lane at Suntec City is cool - got my 2 double choc donuts in 10 mins. there was no queue at all but while I was buying mine, a short queue formed behind me. it moves though, so no worries at all!
of course, the downside is that you can only have whatever donuts are available at the moment, so I didn't get my favourite peanut ones! next time, next time...hope I'll be lucky to get them.
last week, I popped in to breadtalk silver for the first time! I tried their Cures of the Golden Flower that has some almonds covered with white chocolate on top and selbourne custard cream inside. a must try, I say! shall eat it again tomorrow for lunch, yay! the other bread I had was some apple thingie and well, it was rather boring.
I've got a new snack addition and it's no other than fran milk! I've got through 5 packs since the weekend... XD
there was a similar fran in this flavour a few years back and then I guess it got discontinued because it disappeared from the shelves.
ah, but it doesn't come cheap at $2.50 per box. someone buy me a carton...! in fact almost all fran versions are good...it's like a deluxe version of the ol' flimsy pocky.
right now, I'm debating whether to go down and get one for a mid-afternoon munch. darns, the calories are piling on!!!
after reading much rave reviews about tom's palette, I finally tried it! by the way, it's located at the shaw building opposite suntec city - I'm always getting confused about the different shaw buildings. unfortunately, I didn't think it tasted that heavenly. I intended to try the black sesame flavour but they did not have it that day. so, I taste tested a few flavours and decided on 2: oreo cheese and vanilla. hmm, I think haagen dazs' vanilla is nicer and I'm missing their cookies & cream!
with the local donut craze, it's great news that we can have dunkin' donuts in sg now.
it's really yummy! although it looks kinda sticky and coagulated, it tastes really good and I was quite full after that too. shall go try other flavours. kinda expensive though - 4+ for a yoghurt... :|
sitting here and counting down the remaining 2hrs before I can leave and head to the gym. today's plan is to run on the treadmill for 45mins. seems that I really need a minimum of 30mins to burn fats so I'm gonna slow it down a bit and increase the time. I know that at the back of my mind but somehow I ignore it. then I spoke to the nutritionist on Mon and she said the time is very important if I want to burn fats! well, this could be the important factor I'm missing. argh, 45mins is a torture for me (even if I have music and TV to distract myself)...it goes like,
10 mins: ok
17 mins: getting tired
25 mins: tired but getting used to the pace
35 mins: leg muscles aching; feel like stopping
40 mins: desperate to stop
45 mins: ... :(
wheeee, it's great that I can work from home next 2 days. at least, if I don't have work to do, I can watch TV..hehee.
I'm so tempted to go and buy some Chewy Juniors as well as the cheese muffins at Choc n Spice. well, maybe I shall make a trip down there on Sat.
